Rick Kuttler has been immersed in the world of design, illustration and photography since his high school days in Cleveland, Ohio. His first real-world introduction to graphic design was at a type setting shop where he honed his knowledge of graphics and typography well before the Adobe Creative Suite was conceived. This hands on experience has given Rick a hard to find finesse and rich understanding of graphic arts that is finely nuanced and expansive. Rick’s education has been ongoing and self informed and he continues to experiment in a range of mediums—slowly and surely adding them to his arsenal.
Rick’s move to the West was prompted by his recruitment to a Boise design agency where he worked as a Senior Art Director for many years. While the company ultimately moved out of town, Rick stayed, drawn to the wide open spaces, recreational opportunities and desert landscapes of the Great Basin. It was here that his love for photography blossomed into a major component of his career as he documented everything from the sagebrush sea to wild horses and beyond.
Today, Rick works with several clients locally and nationally doing graphic design, art direction and photography. Because he’s had the opportunity to work in every role—assistant, producer, photographer and art director—Rick understands exactly how to get from concept to finished product in a way that exceeds expectation. For photoshoots, he prefers to travel light without unnecessary equipment though he has the range of experience that allows him to work in larger production settings.
Today, Rick lives in Boise’s East End with his love and life partner Jessye and their three dogs. Addie, grand daughter number one often sleeps over, does art projects and entertains her Oma and Papa— usually eating all the bacon in the process. Rick and Jessye love to travel and scoop up any opportunity to range at the nearby desert, or trip to the keys where there is always good windsurfing.
